I know I know not another one, but look: at this point The Pragmatist is feature-complete. You can do all the stuff people like to do with their themes, like stick twitter timelines or a shit-ton of social icons on it, or you can leave it minimal like it was when I first released it. There are over 40 customization options - 70 if you count the shit-ton of social icons. You can tweak little things and big things. That it looks equally right without all the gizmos activated as with is important to me. It’s how I keep calm after considering that I’ve made something more bloated than what I personally like: It’s still what I like, but it has the capacity to be what people who like a lot more stuff like, too.

Anyway, me me me. Blah blah blah. I don’t know how you put up with me sometimes.

Hello and I would like you to meet my sister. Her name is Megan, and we grew up together and she turned out just fine. She is a therapist in Austin, Texas, which is as good a place as any to do therapy, I guess.

Last month, she called me with some questions about how to vet prospective web designers. She forwarded me a couple of proposals she had received and after I scraped myself up off the floor and recovered from the striking combination of exorbitant pricing, self-importance, and straight-up incompetence this crop of prospective designers had paraded before her, I told her to get herself on a plane to Pittsburgh and come spend a weekend here and I’d make her a site for free. Sure, she’d be out the cost of the tickets and a dinner or two, and I do like to eat fancy, but it’d be a pittance compared to the second-mortgage ransom demands she’d managed to solicit in and around Austin.

So this last weekend, she came up on Friday afternoon and we spent Saturday and Sunday building her a new site and that is a picture of my sister’s new site up there and if you would forgive my blatant attempt to lend a minuscule boost to her site’s search ranking, here is a link to her site by which you can either learn more about my sister the Austin psychotherapist or ignore it, totally your choice.

Anyway, now that that’s out of the way, my point is this: In a couple of days, we cranked out a pretty nice little website. We used Squarespace to do it (I know, I know, everyone already knows about Squarespace) and I came away with pretty positive feelings about the whole experience. While their page editor is a bit clunky, and will feel inevitably restrictive for anyone with development experience, I think it’s going to be perfect for my very nontechnical sister to use for site maintenance.

I mean, she already used it to write a blog post, her first in four months.

Anyway, I don’t know where I was going with this except to show off my lovely sister to you guys, because we just had a really great weekend together and I’m feeling kinda braggy about her. That is all.
